PowerServer are offered as perpetual licenses and available in four editions: Developer, Testing, Workgroup, and Enterprise. Developer and Testing Editions are meant for internal development and testing use as the name implies, whereas Workgroup and Enterprise Editions are for production use.
If you purchase PowerBuilder CloudPro edition you will receive a non-perpetual developer license of PowerServer (PB Edition) that supports both web and mobile functions.
A product key (essentially a serial number) is required to install and activate your production server. The product key is unique to your order. A given product key may be used to activate one license only.
Each server runtime of PowerServer Web and Mobile must be activated within 30 days of installation. If your product is not activated in time the server runtime will cease to function.
You will need to obtain a license file that is unique to your particular installation tied to your hardware or your account with cloud service provider. In order to obtain such license file, you will need to first provide Appeon with an activation .BIN file that will be generated by the Appeon Enterprise Manager (AEM). An Internet connection is not required on the machine hosting the server runtime to perform the software activation process.
A given edition of PowerServer can NOT be upgraded to a different edition. For example, a Workgroup Edition license can NOT be upgraded to an Enterprise Edition license. However, both Workgroup and Enterprise Edition licenses can be upgraded from a lower usage capacity to a higher usage capacity.
An activated copy or your software license may be transferred from one machine to another within your organization; however, you may NOT transfer, sell, or assign your license to another organization. This violates the terms of your software license agreement with Appeon, and will render your licenses null and void.
If you wish to transfer an activated copy from one machine to another, you will need to first deactivate the primary copy, install the secondary copy using the same product key as the primary copy, provide Appeon with the activation .BIN file generated by the Appeon Enterprise Manager (AEM), and then apply the license file provided to you by Appeon.
If you have purchased a perpetual license for PowerServer, you are permitted to switch among supported Java EE servers (e.g. WebSphere to JBoss) or switch from between Java EE servers and .NET server (i.e. Microsoft IIS). In order to make such switch, you will essentially need to follow our license transfer policy, which requires you to deactivate your primary copy on the old server and then install and activate the secondary copy on the new server.
If you have purchased the Enterprise Edition of PowerServer, you are permitted to switch operating systems (e.g. Windows to Linux). In order to make such switch, you will essentially need to follow our license transfer policy, which requires you to deactivate your primary copy on the old OS and then install and activate the secondary copy on the new OS.
