San Francisco, California – July 6, 2020 – Appeon, a provider of software for accelerating the development of cloud-based business apps, today announced the general availability of PowerServer 2020, Japanese version for Windows, Linux, and Unix. PowerServer deploys existing client/server PowerBuilder applications to the cloud as Desktop Cloud Apps with a C# REST API Architecture. Desktop Cloud Apps are powered by Web standards and the .NET framework, converging the benefits of desktop and Web applications. This major release brings greater ease and security for consuming REST APIs, expands software environment compatibility, and includes important bug fixes.

 What’s New?

This major release includes a number of notable new features for Web projects:

  • Enhanced REST API Client – More REST-related features and objects of PowerBuilder are supported. Your Web applications can now handle JSON data format (including GZip compressed data), JWT or OAuth2.0 tokens, and all commonly-used HTTP methods in the REST calls. Web applications can also import and export data, and perform operations of the data buffers in DataWindow and DataStore.
  • Compressor and Extractor Objects – The new Compressor and Extractor objects of PowerBuilder are supported. Web applications can compress or decompress files or folders in a variety of popular formats, including ZIP, 7ZIP, RAR, GZIP, TAR, LZMA, and LZMA86.
  • Automated Testing – PowerServer Web application can be automatically tested by AscentialTest 9.5.2 or above. Existing testing scripts for PowerBuilder client/server applications can be reused to automatically test PowerServer Web applications.

How Do I Get Started?

PowerServer 2020 Japanese version is now generally available for evaluation, upgrade, or new installation. Trial versions of the product are fully functional for a period of 30 days. Existing customers on a maintenance or support plan may receive this version as a free upgrade. New customers may purchase from the local distributor Nippon Computer Systems in Japan. PowerServer 2020 Japanese version will require PowerBuilder 2017 R3 Japanese version to be upgraded to the latest maintenance release (MR #1926).
